Still Dreaming by *joerossbach Currently appearing on the inside of the latest edition of Outdoor Photographer Magazine, Joe's work is some of the very best, as this shot showcases, an incredible moment in nature captured...the way the Elk pauses as if to take in the beauty which is before him...the kind of shot that many of us can only ever aspire for to get!

It is rare that a landscape image manages to get a true emotional response from me. Whilst I often enjoy the beauty of landscape images, and they may make me think, it is rare that my experience goes further than this.

This shot made me stop and stare. It really speaks wonders of the magic of the natural world. Whilst the views i spectacular and the lghting beautiful, it is ultimately comparable to many mountainous lake scenes from around the world. What of course sets the image apart is the elk stood on the shoreline, seemingly enjoying this wonderful view of the mountains. As a concept this has a very strong environmental theme and illustrates perfectly in my opinion the importance of the world's wildernesses and national parks.

I think it is probably the aspiration of many nature and landscape photographers to capture images which so strongly support our environment and I can think of view images that acheive this so sucessfully.

From a technical standpoint the image is tastefully exposed, processed (if there is any) and is very well composed and balanced. My only minor nitpick being that I feel the right side of the image is a shade too dark. Frankly though that matters very little.

A truelly wonderful shot, one of my top 10 of 09.
