Swirly Falls by joerossbach Swirly Falls by joerossbach
Spent a great weekend camping and hiking with my 4 year old son Phoenix in the mountains of West Virginia. On Sunday, we scrambled down to second falls of Shays Run and climbed around the falls and played in the plunge pool for a while. He was patient enough to allow me to work a few comps as well!

Very nice shot. Is the swirl natural? Or is it something you did to the picture?

I like it! But it does seem a bit light to me. Maybe its just my taste. =P

Top 1/2 seems a bit bright overall but i'm a sucker for swirly water. Way way cool!

Very nice Joe,

Seems like you had quite some extended exposure to get the swirly that neat,

i like the idea of using the pool for a long exposure, very classic theme and composition. overall the image looks very distorted to me and somehow not level to me, even if i don't see a horizon. i'm not sure where this distortion feeling comes from, but it is not working here. i'd also remove the reflection of the sky in the lower left corner. all in all a good idea, but a bit below the high standard of your work.

Great use of a slow shutter speed, but not too slow to the point that the bubbles don't make their pattern! Love the swirl :D

Great shot! I've only seen water under a falls do that once, and it was a much greater volume of water.
No idea what causes it, but the next day when we returned for a shoot, the swirl was gone and the flow was back to normal...
